The fauna area is about 800 m away. s.l.m. In the town of Sa Portiscra in Supramonte di Urzulei. The access to the area is 187 Km from S. 125 – Eastern Sardinia, in Ghenna ‚and Petha near Silana.
The natural aspects of the area are still well preserved: there are important wrecks of the secular leccio forest and majestic junipers, the rare wild orchids, peony and various other botanical endemics. From these slopes, among others, the Sardo Astore and the majestic Royal Eagle. Mouffons take flight. The wild boars, wild cat, marten and fox are happy to stay in this area.
These and other features for which this site was chosen as a site for reintroduction in the Supramonte del Cervo Sardo, after its extinction occurred here in the early twentieth century. Within the oasis, which has an area of about ten acres, there are specimens of Cervus Elaphus Corsicanus. Near the oasis you can visit the nuragic village of „Or Murales“ which, with about 100 huts kept in good condition and hidden in the vegetation, is one of the largest and spectacular in Sardinia.
Also in the area there are the special sheep, the limestone and the juniper stone, used by shepherds in the past. These sheep, though discarded, retain the original features intact.
The whole area is characterized by breathtaking views. You can see Gorropu Gorge, with its walls of almost 500 m, the limestone chain that from Monte Oseli overhangs the Codula of Luna and the Gulf of Orosei.
Each itinerary of this wildlife oasis that we can propose, regardless of the length of the trail, needs at least a day to enjoy the best of all the beauty that the reserve offers you!
We advise you to move in the warmer hours and to equip you with sneakers or acqua shoes, sun cream, hat, abundant water and bag sancks!
